I’d love to introduce my newest obsession: my Lily Jade diaper bag. When I became a mama, one of the things I dreaded was to have to carry around a diaper bag that looked painfully obvious like a diaper bag. You know, one of those generic black nylon ones, with bottle holders all along the side. I’ve purchased my fair share of non-mom diaper bags but they have not been able to withstand the abuse that diaper bags take on a daily basis. Eventually, I gave up and started using plastic bags as a means of transporting all my baby gear. That’s how exasperated I was.
Lily Jade’s diaper bag is definitely revolutionary for me for a few reasons. First, it doesn’t look like a diaper bag. But the inside sure functions like a diaper bag. It’s got a great insert that helps you separate your baby’s clothes from baby food. I am usually carrying clothes and gear for all 3 of my kids, so it’s essential for me to keep things organized.
The best part about this diaper bag is that it’s made out of leather. Soft, luscious and beautiful full grain leather! It feels like a high end, luxurious purse and sometimes that’s exactly what this mama needs as a pick-me up on days that I’ve been spat up on 20 times.
Would you like one too? Good news! I’m teaming up with Lily Jade to do a giveaway for a diaper bag and some pretty jewellery from Mint & Birch! Stay tuned and follow along on our Instagram feeds as the giveaway will be up sometime in the next week or so!

Mint and Birch has a new necklace that will launch later on this year! I am super excited to launch these because these woven necklaces are made with hand selected, high quality yarns. They are all hand woven by me and each of them are adorned with a little brass ornament that can be customized or stamped with an initial of choice. These are perfect for the gypsy soul, boho at heart or those who like unique jewellery! These are meant to hang on a long chain to compliment your outfit, or to be layered with existing necklaces! Here’s a little back story behind why I love working with yarn.
When I was pregnant with my first child, I had the itch to pick up some sort of new craft and hobby, and I decided to pick up crocheting! I learned how to crochet by watching YouTube videos, and eventually I went from crocheting little swatches to knitting and crocheting scarves and cozies! I even created a coaster pattern! I daydreamed about opening up a small handmade business, and toyed with the idea of selling scarves. But it never came to be, because it just took me too long to make and I didn’t want to turn it into a business but wanted to keep it as a leisurely hobby for myself.
Fast forward three years: I run Mint & Birch and I have been open for 3 years… here is a little story about my shop. Although I am so thrilled with my business, I am a little sad to say that I no longer crochet or knit, even to make projects for myself because I just can’t seem to find the time to do so in between orders! Well, my husband was probably relieved when I stopped crocheting and knitting so much. . . why, you ask?
My husband was probably a little relieved because my yarn buying habits were starting to become a little excessive. I don’t even want to know how much money I spent on yarn, and how much storage space it takes up in our already small and cramped storage room! Well, sorry husband, but the yarn addiction is back in full force with the launch of these babies! I am currently in the testing stages of product development. It is important for me to make sure that these are durable and will stand up to regular, everyday wear! I want to know that they are enjoyable before I launch these. I have probably made about 30-50 of these in prototypes, but I think I have finally perfected a technique that I am happy with! Nevertheless, this is a sneak peek into what is coming to Mint & Birch this Fall/Winter!
I am currently closed and have check out disabled on my website until September 2 at the very earliest. I am taking a much needed summer break and am also stocking up for the upcoming Etsy Market that will be held at Robson Square on September 26! I am currently waiting on more supplies and having these necklaces tested before the official launch! There may be a giveaway for one of these necklaces when we launch them, so stay tuned on here as well as on Facebook and Instagram to see how you might be able to win one of your own!
I’d love to introduce my friend Codi, from Creative Wife + Joyful Worker. I mentioned one of the best things about having my own businesses is the friendships that form out of it. I have been so lucky to have met Codi. We met about a year ago when I reached out and asked if she could do a blog post for me. I was so excited when she said yes, and I sent her a couple of items to review. She has been a huge support for my business and has she has encouraged me through so much, including my name change from Woodland Owl Trinkets to Mint & Birch. Codi is a multi-talented mama. She’s in school for graphic design, blogs, takes wonderful photographs, is opening up a business, always has brilliant projects on the go, and is a phenomenal mama. Yes, she’s good at everything, and she handles it all with so much poise and grace. If I had as many projects going on at the same time, I’m pretty sure I would be a mess! She’s a beauty inside and out, and I know you will enjoy her blog!
After I bought my very first DSLR camera last year, I developed a new love for product photography. I started collecting all sorts of trinkets from the thrift store as props for my jewellery! So when Trish from LPhilipsDesignCo contacted me and asked me to photograph her dish and cross-promote, I was all in! Trish creates durable, shatterproof dishes that are made out of polymer clay. Each one is handmade and hand moulded ever so perfectly. Each dish is lightweight and extremely durable because it is made with polymer clay, yet it looks just like porcelain! it’s almost as if someone plucked a flower petal and placed it into my hands. I have two rowdy kids and I thought I would never be able to own anything nice and delicate until all the kids have grown a bit older. Thanks to lliphilipsdesignco, I have a pretty dish to store my jewellery and I don’t have to worry about it shattering!
I chose a custom mint and gold coloured dish. A week later, it arrived at in my mailbox! it feels durable, yet with its marbled colours and delicate gold trim, I felt like I was holding something made out of porcelain. With its perfect petal-like curves and beautifully mixed colours, it was an absolute dream to photograph!
Head on over to Trish’s etsy shop
to take a look! Whether you need a place to store your jewellery, a pretty dish to hold your everyday trinkets, or need a gift for a bridesmaids or jewellery lover, these dishes are sure to be a pick-me up. And it sure is a bonus that they are shatterproof! Trish also takes custom orders, so if you have a specific combination of colours in mind, you can also have something custom made. Do you want one?
