Meet Islands and Castles!

Meet my friend Michelle, the mama behind Islands and Castles! We met at an event hosted by Modern Fort last winter and I fell in love with Michelle and her t-shirts!  She’s got it all- brains and beauty… and her personality is contagious! She is truly beautiful inside and out, and it shows in her designs. Each design is fun and unique! Islands also donates $1 from each shirt sold to a charity! (BCSPCA, Save the Children, and Kids’ Help Phone!) She’s sporting one of my nature inspired nest necklaces in these photos!

See this pug shirt above? It’s an actual portrait of her pug! How unique is that? Each shirt from Islands and Castles is designed and hand printed by Michelle with safe water-based inks. Does your little one have sensitive skin or do you like to pick the finest organic materials for your child(ren) to wear? Not to worry, because Island and Castles prints on organic tees!

The first shirt I ordered from Michelle was this “killing it with kindness” tee. She generously sent me a second shirt, a wanderlust sweatshirt! These are my favourite shirts to put on the kids because I know that the inks are safe, and because the designs are so fun! Luckily my kids are similar in size enough to share these shirts because they always get excited when I pull these out of the dryer and can take turns wearing each one!

I love each one of Island and Castles‘ designs- Michelle pours her heart into all the tees behind Islands and Castles. Each one is fun, unique and positive! If I absolutely had to pic a favourite… it would be between the “killing it with kindness” and the “L’amour Triomph de Tout” (love conquers all) shirts! But I honestly can’t pick any favourites because I love them all! (Did you see the Game Changer shirt?!)

The kids below modelling Islands and Castles’ shirts! Every time I see that EIEIO shirt printed on American Apparel Organic Kids Fine Jersey, I want to burst out in a song! My kids love that song, and the first thing that my 4 year old pointed out was that there was a cute cow on his brother’s new shirt!

One of the best things about buying handmade is that you’re not buying something that is mass manufactured, but something that comes from the heart and has been designed with love. And that’s what I love most about Islands and Castles is that each design reflects Michelle’s bubbly, fun yet sophisticated personality! Go check out her social media feeds and website below! You won’t regret it!

Mompreneur Event Recap: Van City Business Babes

Photo Credit: Codi – Creative Wife + Joyful Worker
Vendor Table: Jacky and Ili – Chic Fete

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of being part of the Mompreneur Event held at Sky Helicopters.  I met Danielle, who runs Van City Business Babes a few months ago and we totally clicked! She hosts wonderful events for businesses to network and mingle. She’s got such a knack for putting these beautiful events together! She asked me to be on the panel for this event, and I was so honoured! I’ll be honest, public speaking is not my forte, but it was so much fun! I had tried to pry before the event to see what kind of questions we were going to be asked, but Danielle wanted it to be casual, real and in-the-moment. I think she planned it fabulously! I had the pleasure and honour of sitting beside Jamie from Styling the Inside and Kristal from The Sparkle Project.

Easy Crochet Coaster Pattern

easy crochet coaster pattern    easy crochet coaster pattern

Once upon a time, I used to crochet. After searching for the perfect housewarming gift for a friend, I came up with this simple pattern: Easy Dhalia Coasters!  This easy crochet coasterpattern was one of my go-to patterns for easy, yet stylish and functional gifts. These are perfect as housewarming gifts! Another bonus is that these work very fast and with just 5 rows, you’ll have a lovely dahlia coaster! I hope you enjoy the pattern!

Tips for Helping Your Toddler Adjust to Wearing Glasses

A few months ago, I took a photo of my son with the flash on the camera and noticed a strange haze on one of his eyes. I had read that this could be a sign of something serious, so I took him to the optometrist to get checked. Thankfully, everything was okay but we discovered that he needed glasses to ensure that his eyes developed evenly. Within a few weeks, we had to get him to wear glasses full-time. Along the way, I’ve learnt some things that have helped me with helping him adjust to wearing these new spectacles. These tips may or may not work for you, but this is how I did it! I’m by no means an expert on child behaviour, but this is what worked for us. You know your own child best!

Sarah Jessica Parker Look-A-Like: Sex In the City Photoshoot

Earlier this year, Jen from Dames and Dolls Makeup contacted me and asked if I would be interested in sending something for a photoshoot that was going to be photographed by Amanda Coldicutt Photography , styled by her and Caitlin J Make-up and Artistry. All images below have been taken by Amanda! Jen picked the mama bear necklace to go with this photoshoot, styled after Sex in the City!

The photoshoot was styled after Sex in the City, of course because Jen looks a bit like Sarah Jessica Parker! Jen picked the mama bear necklace to go with this photoshoot. Even though Carrie Bradshaw wasn’t a mama bear in the show, this necklace went perfectly with the photo shoot, paired with that lovely tutu!

Seriously, how gorgeous is Jen!? And these photos are amazing! Flawless hair and make up!

The Vintage Barn Market

This weekend I had the pleasure of being a vendor at The Vintage Barn Market in Chilliwack. The weather was beautiful, and our family made a trip out of it and camped out there this weekend! This was one of my last markets for a while because I need to be able to focus on fulfilling my online orders, and it’s incredibly difficult to keep up with stocking for a market while keeping up with orders.  Larissa and Bree certainly did a wonderful job of curating the market as well as providing such a pleasurable shopping experience. And the music was excellent! It went by too quickly! Here are some of my favourite finds! All images have been taken by me.
